How to Reinstall the 'D' Drive on My Computer

by TS Jordan

The "D:" drive on most computers refers to the CD-ROM drive. Uninstalling and reinstalling the CD-ROM can be necessary when the computer has a glitch or exhibits other unexpected behavior. While you might think that reinstalling a piece of hardware would be complex, you can readily complete this procedure through the use of Windows' Device Manager, a subsystem of the operating system that allows you to manage installed hardware.

1

Open the Start menu and click on the "Device Manager."

2

Click on the "Control Panel" and open the submenu labeled "CD/DVD Drives."

3

Double-click on the drive that represents the "D:" drive.

4

Select the "Driver" tab.

5

Choose the "Uninstall" button and reboot your computer. This will uninstall the "D:" drive and reinstall it when the computer loads up again.
