How to Register Windows Installer Service

by Rita Wood

The Windows Installer Service is used to install, modify or remove programs on Microsoft Windows computers. If this service is unregistered or disabled, software installations, removals or modifications will fail. You need to unregister the service to be sure it is not registered, then re-register it. You can do this using a simple command.

Click "Start" and type "msiexec /unregister" in the search field, then press "Enter." You will not see anything happen during this process.

Click "Start" and type "msiexec /regserver" in the search field, then press "Enter." You will not see anything happen during this process.

Install, remove or modify the application you were working with. The Windows Installer Service is now registered.
