How to Refresh Dry Printer Cartridges

by Greyson Ferguson

If you have purchased and installed a new ink cartridge into your printer only to let it sit there for weeks without using it, you might find that the ink is having a difficult time coming out and that the printed pages are light. This is because the lack of use has dried out the exterior layer of ink, preventing fresh ink from being used to print the paper. Luckily, this issue can be corrected without too much trouble.

Remove the ink cartridge from the printer.

Soak a cotton swab in warm water. You will only need one end of the swab to be wet.

Rub the cotton swab across the area of the ink cartridge where the ink is emitted. This will rub off any dry ink; the water should help stimulate the wet ink.

Dry off the ink cartridge with a paper towel. Be careful the ink doesn't get on your clothing.

Insert the printer cartridge back into the printer. Print a test page; the printer should function properly again.
