How to Refill HP 920XL Ink Cartridges
By Paul Ramone
Though inkjet cartridge replacements are widely available, a growing number of consumers are avoiding costly cartridges and instead repeatedly refilling the ink in their old ones. The HP 920XL for the HP Officejet 6500 series of all-in-one printers comes in either black, cyan, magenta or yellow. The 920XL cartridge can be filled with 8 ml of replacement ink, which can print approximately 1,200 pages.
Remove the cartridge from your printer and place it on top of a few layers of paper towels.
Cover the outlet port on the bottom of the cartridge with the included orange cap and secure it to the cartridge firmly with a rubber band.
Drill through the top surface of the HP 920XL cartridge just above the clear window and below the "XL" designation on the label.
Fill the syringe with 8 ml of replacement ink, insert it into the drilled hole, then slowly release the ink.
Remove the syringe, dry the space around the hole with a paper towel, then seal the hole with a dab of hot glue.
Remove the rubber band and orange cap from the bottom of the cartridge and place the HP 920XL into a bowl to catch any ink leaks.
After two minutes, remove the cartridge from the bowl and insert it into your printer.
