How to Read a Kindle in the Dark Using the Backlight
By Steve Gregory
The Paperwhite version of the Amazon Kindle e-reader has a built-in light that allows you to read content in the dark. That means you don't have to turn on a light at night and disturb your significant other if you want to relax and read a good book on your Kindle. You can access the light feature via the device's toolbar.
Step 1
Open the book you want to read on your Kindle.
Step 2
Tap the top of the screen to open the "Reading" toolbar.
Step 3
Tap the "Light bulb" icon to open the screen light scale.
Step 4
Slide your finger up the scale from the "-" position to the "+" position to turn on the backlight and increase the screen brightness. Slide your finger down the scale to reduce the screen brightness.
Step 5
Tap and hold the "+" button to enable the screen's maximum brightness.
Step 6
Tap anywhere on the screen to remove the screen light scale and Reading toolbar.
