How to Program a Vizio Remote Control
By Adrian Grahams
If using separate remote control handsets for each of your TV and audio-visual devices leaves you fumbling to find the correct handset each time you want to change a channel, adjust the volume or record your favorite show, you might want to program your Vizio universal remote control handset to operate all your equipment. The Vizio universal remote works automatically with your TV, and you can also program it with the correct remote code to operate your cable TV set-top box and DVD recorder/player. The Vizio remote control also works with any home theater audio system, audio receiver or amplifier connected to your TV set. Although there's no separate button on the Vizio remote handset for a VCR, you can program one of the other device buttons to work with your VCR if you're not using one of those devices.
Program the Vizio Remote Control For Cable TV
Power on the cable TV set-top box.
Press the "CBL" button on the Vizio remote control.
Push and hold down the "SET" button until the LED indicator light flashes twice.
Enter the remote programming code for your cable TV box with the Vizio remote's numeric keys. Wait for the LED indicator to flash twice after you enter the last number.
Point the remote control at your cable TV box and then press the "POWER" button to switch off the cable box.
Program the Vizio Remote Control For a DVD Player or Recorder
Power on the DVD device.
Press the "DVD" button on the Vizio remote control.
Push and hold down the "SET" button until the LED light flashes twice.
Enter the code for your DVD. Wait for the LED indicator to flash twice.
Point the remote control at your DVD device and press the "POWER" button to switch it off.
Program the Vizio Remote Control For a VCR
Switch on the VCR.
Press the Vizio remote button that you want to use for the VCR; for example, you might want to select the "Audio" button if you don't have a home audio system.
Press and hold the "SET" button until the LED light flashes twice.
Enter the remote code for your VCR. Wait for the LED indicator to flash twice.
Aim the Vizio remote control at the VCR and press "POWER" to switch off the device.
- Find the correct remote programming code for each device in the user manual for the device or in the Vizio remote control handset user manual.
