How to Program an RCA Remote RCU600m to a DirecTV Receiver
By Steve Lander
The RCA RCU600m is a universal remote control. It can control up to six devices, including a television, videocassette recorder, DVD player, audio system, cable box and satellite receiver. Like many universal remote controls, it is programmed with a database of device codes, allowing you to control many different satellite receiver brands and models by entering the code for that device. The RCU600m also includes presets to control devices made by RCA and its family of brands, which includes some DirecTV receivers.
Direct Code Entry
Step 1
Press the "Power" button on your DirecTV satellite receiver to turn it on.
Step 2
Press and hold the "Code Search" key on the remote control until the indicator lights.
Step 3
Press the remote's "DBS-SAT" key. You should see the indicator blink off and then illuminate.
Step 4
Use the numerical keypad to enter the three-digit code for your receiver and watch for the indicator to turn off, confirming a successful entry. You can look up codes in the list linked in the Resources section of this article. Since DirecTV was once tied to Hughes Network Systems, try those codes first if your receiver brand is not listed.
Step 5
Press the "On-Off" key on the remote control while you are aiming it at the satellite receiver. If it turns off, you used the correct code; if not, repeat this procedure and try different codes until you find the correct one.

When the receiver turns off, press the "Enter" key immediately. Alternately, press the "On-Off" key repeatedly until your satellite receiver turns off. When it does, press "Enter" to store the code.
