by Kammy Pow

The NEC Aspire is a family of digital phone systems aimed at the small or home business user. The Aspire uses peer-to-peer switching, or routing, through an IP network. The Aspire includes a number of features, including voice mail, caller ID logging, programmable function keys, virtual extension keys, easy access to frequently used features and flexible system management and maintenance options.

Log onto UserPro

Step 1

Place the NEC Aspire phone system on idle. The key set is locked down until you complete all programming functions.

Step 2

Open an Internet Web browser and type in the IP address of the Aspire system. Ask the system administrator for the IP address if it is unknown.

Step 3

Enter your username and password on the login page. The username should be your extension and the password should be assigned by the system administrator. The default password for the system is "1111." After username and password authentication, you arrive at UserPro's main window.

Select a function to program from the list along the top row of the window.

Make Changes to Call Features

Step 1

Click on "Telephone Settings" to modify extension names, activate night service modes and set caller features, trunk ringtones, LCD language displays and dialing restrictions.

Step 2

Change the extension name by clicking in the "Extension Name" box and entering either first name, last name or first name [space] last name. Extension names can be up to 12 alphanumeric characters long.

Step 3

Set night mode switching, call forwarding, incoming ringtones, LCD language display and toll restriction password overrides. Click the drop-down menu for each function and select an item. If setting call forwarding functions, enter the extension number to forward to in the Additional Data field.

Make changes permanent by clicking on the "Apply" icon, the first image in the set of images located along the upper-right corner of the window. To disregard changes, click on the "Cancel" icon, which is indicated by an "X."

Assign Function Keys

Step 1

Click on "Function Key Assignment" to set the function keys. The program allows up to 12 or 24 programmable function keys, depending on the particular Aspire model.

Step 2

Complete changes by clicking on "Apply." Otherwise, click "Cancel."

Assign Virtual Extension Rings

Step 1

Click on "Virtual Extension Ring Assignment" to assign virtual extension ringtones. Virtual Extension Ring Assignment defines how to differentiate incoming calls.
