How to Program a Emerson Universal Jumbo Remote

An Emerson Universal Jumbo Remote may at first appear to be nothing more than a novelty item to display on a coffee or end table. In actuality, the remote can control up to eight different kinds of electronic devices. This particular remote is ideal for an individual with larger-than-normal fingers, or a person that has trouble reading the fine print that is found on standard universal or television remotes. The Emerson remote, like many other universal remotes, can be programmed via the “Code Search” method.

Step 1

Turn on the TV, cable box, VCR or other device that will be operated by the remote.

Step 2

Hold down the key labeled “Code Search” on the Emerson remote. The red light next to “Code Search” turns on. It remains on after about five seconds. Then, release the key.

Step 3

Face the Emerson remote at the device.

Step 4

Press the “Power” button at the top right of the remote repeatedly. Continue doing this, potentially for several minutes, until the device turns off.

Step 5

Press “Mute” immediately once the device turns off. The code is saved. Test other buttons on the Emerson remote. Repeat the process if necessary.
