How to Program a Coolsat 5000 Platinum

By Jason Taetsch

The Coolsat 5000 Platinum FTA receiver needs up-to-date software to stay in touch with the necessary satellites that broadcast the FTA channels. FTA or free-to-air TV channels are distributed without encryption methods and do not require any subscription or activation fees, unlike other types of satellite service. An RS232 port is located on the rear of the Coolsat 5000 Platinum to allow users to program the receiver with the latest software.

Step 1

Open an Internet Explorer and visit FTA Supreme (See "Resources"). Click the "Download" link next to the Coolsat 5000 entry to download the latest BIN files to program the Coolsat.

Step 2

Turn off the Coolsat receiver and unplug it from the power source. Connect the RS232 to USB adapter into one of the ports on your computer and insert the cable into the port on the adapter.

Step 3

Plug the other side of the RS232 cable into the port on the rear of the receiver. Launch the "Coolsat Pro Loader v2.4" application from the "All Programs" folder.

Step 4

Click the "Software" tab and click the "Browse" button. Select the download BIN files in the dialogue and click "Open." Check the box for "To Receiver."

Step 5

Plug the receiver back into an outlet and turn on the receiver. Click the "Auto Connect" button to begin communicating with the receiver and click the "Connect" button. Click "Start" in the window that opens to send the new software programming to the receiver.

Step 6

Turn off the receiver and unplug it from the outlet. Disconnect the RS232 cable from the back of the receiver and turn it back on.
