Printers That Work With Acer Computers
By Mindi Orth
Selecting the right printer to coordinate with your new Acer computer does not need to be a difficult task. Printers are made to universal standards, and with the appropriate drivers you can install them on nearly any computer, regardless of manufacturer. You must install the version of the printer's drivers and software compatible with the operating system running on your Acer computer. You also must make sure to have the appropriate port available on your computer, such as an available parallel port or USB port, depending on the connection method required.
Connecting a laser printer to your Acer computer, either directly or through a network connection, offers a solid solution for your printing needs. Laser printers provide fast printing and a high level of durability. In addition, they come in many shapes and sizes, and with varying feature levels. Some of the many models compatible with Acer computers include the Hewlett Packard LaserJet Pro P1606dn, the Dell 2350d and the Brother HL 5370DW. Again, always make sure to select a printer that supports the desired connection method. For a direct cable connection setup, do not choose a printer that requires a parallel connection if your Acer laptop or desktop is not equipped with a parallel port.
Ink Jet Photo Printers
Many home users turn to ink jet photo printers to meet their printing needs. These printers provide the ability to print professional quality photographs from home, and often cost much less than their laser counterparts. Hewlett Packard, Epson, Canon and Kodak all manufacture ink jet models that you can use with your Acer computer. Once again, select a model that supports your desired connection method.
Multifunction or All-in-One Printers
Multifunction machines offer the convenience of a printer, a copier, and a scanner in one machine. Often called all-in-ones, these units may come equipped with fax capabilities, as well. A multifunction printer typically comes with both the printer drivers and a software package. Select a model that supports your operating system, and install the correct software version on your Acer computer. This allows you to take advantage of the additional capabilities offered by the printer.
Dot Matrix Printers
Dot matrix printers offer the ability to print through multipage forms in a single pass, and can be an ideal solution for business and individuals looking to print invoices and shipping documents. Not a popular choice with home users, a dot matrix printer meets a specific need only and typically is not used for everyday printing. Examples of dot matrix printers that you can connect to your Acer computer include the Epson FX-90 and Okidata ML320.
