Portable Zip Password Recovery
By Chris Hoke
There are few things more frustrating than forgetting the password to your own ZIP archive, especially when it contains important files you (or your boss) need right now. Portable ZIP Password Recovery Magic is a utility that allows you to recover the password from a protected ZIP archive. It is called "Portable" because the utility does not need to be installed on the computer for it to run. The program interface is easy to use, even for novice computer users, and you can use it from a USB flash drive for greater portability.
Download "Portable ZIP Password Recovery Magic" (see Resources). Extract the RAR file archive to any directory.
Double-click the "ZIPRecover.exe" file to launch the utility. Click the "Settings" button to show the advanced options. Click the "Brute Force" tab.
Click the "Open" button and locate the password-protected ZIP file. Click on it to select it, then click "Open." Click to place or clear a check in the box next to the "Select letters," "Select numbers" and "Select symbols" options. Type a number value in the "Min" and "Max" password length text fields.
Click the "Start" button to begin the password recovery. The recovery process may take several hours to complete, depending upon the length and character variety of the password. The recovered password will appear in the last line of the text field area.
