How to Play Movies in OpenOffice Impress
By Aurelio Locsin
Impress is a part of the free OpenOffice suite that lets you create presentation slides that contain different font styles, multiple color schemes, sounds, images and movies. The movie formats it can handle include Quicktime (MOV) streaming videos (ASF), Windows Media Video (WMV), Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG) and Audio Video Interface (AVI). The program can save to its own proprietary format or to PowerPoint format for importing and editing by the Microsoft Office Suite.
Choose the Insert menu from inside OpenOffice Impress and select "Movie and Sound" to display the Open dialog box.
Navigate to the movie you want to insert and double-click to insert it into the current slide.
Select the movie to make the video toolbar appear at the bottom of the slide. Click the "Play" button on this toolbar to play the movie.
Choose the File menu and "Save" to save the current presentation. When you view the presentation and reach the current slide, the movie automatically plays.
