How to Play a DVD in Windows 7
By Tara Cantore
Windows 7 comes equipped with the Windows Media Player application. Windows Media Player is used to play a variety of music and video files. Although you will need a DVD player installed in your computer to play a DVD movie, most modern systems come equipped with them as a standard feature. Windows Media Player will automatically play DVDs on your computer's monitor.
Insert your DVD into the drive of your computer's DVD or Blu-ray player.
Open the Start menu and type "Windows Media Player." Click "Windows Media Player" from the result list. If the program automatically opened when you inserted your DVD, you may skip this step.
Click the name of your DVD disc in the "Navigation" pane on the left of the window.
Click a chapter name once the disc begins playing to skip forward or backward in playback.
