How to Photoshop Earrings
By Filonia LeChat
Wearing earrings is usually a lifelong commitment -- once your ears are pierced, the holes remain indefinitely. Experiment with earrings without the pain and piercings, or test out a new look for added piercings before feeling the pinch. Use Adobe Photoshop to add earrings to your images, trying on a single stud or an entire cuff up and down your ear. With Photoshop's tools, you can copy your favorite styles from another image or hand-design your own jewels.
From Scratch
Step 1
Open Adobe Photoshop. Click the "File" menu. Click "Open." Browse to the picture you are adding earrings to and double-click the file name. When the image opens, press the "Ctrl" and "+" keys to zoom in so one or both ears are visible and take up most of the canvas size.
Step 2
Click the icon of a gray circle at the bottom of the "Tools" pane. If you do not see the circle, right-click the icon of a gray star, gray square or line and choose "Ellipse Tool" from the fly-out menu.
Step 3
Click into the "Style" box on the toolbar at the top of the screen; by default the box may be a white square with a red line through it. Select one of the earring styles such as fire flames or metal studs.
Step 4
Position the cursor on the person's earlobe; click and drag to form the circle of the earring. Release the mouse button. Repeat on the other ear.
Copy and Size
Step 1
Open Adobe Photoshop. Click the "File" menu. Click "Open." Browse to the picture you are adding earrings to and double-click the file name. When the image opens, press the "Ctrl" and "+" keys to zoom in so one or both ears are visible and take up most of the canvas size.
Step 2
Click "File" and "Open" again. Locate a picture of earrings or someone wearing earrings. Double-click the image. When it opens, click the "Lasso" tool on the "Tools" pane. Draw an outline around one of the earrings. Avoid as much earlobe or, in the case of dangles and hoops, as much of the background as possible.
Step 3
Press the "Ctrl" and "C" keys to copy the earring. Click the original image. Press the "Ctrl" and "V" keys to paste in the copy.
Step 4
Click the "Edit" menu. Select "Transform" and click "Scale." Shrink the earring into size to fit the ear and drag it into place. Repeat for the other ear.
