A proxy server is computer hardware that functions as a security intermediary between an operating system and the Internet. Generally, network administrators establish a proxy server by utilizing Internet filtering software like Websense, Barracuda and McAfee to restrict access to websites that are considered harmful, display inappropriate content or take up too much bandwidth. However, it isn't uncommon for harmless and useful websites to become restricted by a proxy server. Fortunately, if you need to access a blocked website, you can get past a proxy server by using a proxy site, which allows you to bypass any Internet restrictions anonymously and securely.

Step 1

Use 0surf to get past a proxy server; a link is available in the Resources section. 0surf allows you to anonymously browse the Internet without disclosing your identity when getting past a proxy server. 0surf also protects your IP address and gives you access to commonly restricted sites such as Bebo, Facebook and MySpace. To get past a proxy server and browse the net without restrictions using 0surf, type the URL for the desired site into the text box located at the bottom of the screen beside the tab that says "Browse."

Step 2

Bypass a proxy server with BulkProxy (see Resources). BulkProxy is a free and anonymous proxy site that grants access to prohibited websites. BulkProxy can be utilized at work, school and residences to get past proxy restrictions and website blocks established by any type of Internet filtering software. With this proxy, you may also manage cookies from sites browsed through BulkProxy via the cookie tab in the top left corner of the screen. To get past a proxy server with BulkProxy, type the restricted URL into the text box located in the middle of the page.

Use Free Proxy Server to avoid proxy server restrictions; refer to the Resources section for the link. Free Proxy Server allows you to surf the Internet through an intermediary interface that protects your personal data and prevents identity disclosure. For direct access to the desired and restricted website, type the website URL into the large black text box located at the bottom of the screen. Free Proxy Server also provides quick links to commonly restricted sites such as MySpace, Facebook, Bebo, Friendster and Hi5. These links are located above the URL text box.
