Does Pandora Cost iPhone Users Extra Money?

by Jacob Michael

Using the Pandora app on the iPhone is a simple process. Plug in an artist's name or genre type, and Pandora builds and plays a dynamic radio station with a playlist catered to your interests. With the iPhone’s portability, Pandora is a great way to listen to music on the go. However, budget-conscious iPhone users should be wary -- although the basic Pandora service is free, extra charges may surprise some users.

Pandora and Pandora One

Use of the Pandora service is free, but pop-up and full-screen visual ads occasionally play during song breaks. Audio ads may also play in between songs. Upgrading to the fee-based Pandora One eliminates all advertising and adds other features, including unlimited song skips and a customizable interface. A Pandora One subscription has a monthly fee that can be cancelled at any time.

Other Fees and Charges to Consider

You may incur data usage fees from your cellular plan provider if you don’t have an unlimited data plan. Using Pandora with a Wi-Fi connection usually alleviates any data plan overages, unless you are using a subscription- or fee-based Wi-Fi network.
