The Apple iPhone features a SIM card that stores the information saved to the device. Occasionally, the need arises for you to remove or replace this card. For example, if you purchase a new iPhone you may need to remove the SIM card from your old iPhone before passing it along to another employee or friend, or before selling the device. In addition, you must remove the SIM card before sending in the device for repair service.

Step 1

Locate the SIM card tray on your iPhone. This location varies depending on the iPhone model. For example, the tray resides at the top of the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G models. The tray resides on the center of the right side of the iPhone 4 models.

Step 2

Insert the tip of the SIM eject tool or an unfolded paper clip into the hole on the side of the SIM card tray to release the tray from the phone. The iPhone 3 models shipped with the SIM eject tool. If you misplaced this tool, or if you have a different model of iPhone, a paper clip will do the job. Use gentle pressure when using either tool to avoid damaging your phone.

Step 3

Pull the tray from your iPhone gently and remove the card.

Step 4

Slide the tray into the SIM card slot of your iPhone until you hear it click into place. The tray only fits into the iPhone a particular way, so do not force it.
