How to Find the Origin of an IP Address
By Khalidah Tunkara
Knowing the IP address of a person can come in very handy such as when needing to know the exact location of someone for reporting harassment. An IP address is also used by some eBay retailers to verify the location of an Internet user before conducting transactions. If you have ever wanted to know the location of an Internet user, finding out his IP or internet protocol address would be one of the first avenues to use.
Get the IP address that you would like to perform a search on.
Choose a website to complete your IP search. Websites such as IPchecking.com, Whatismyipaddress.com and IPligence.com offer free services that will allow the user to complete a search on the IP address.
Enter the IP address into the website chosen and search. The search should bring about information that will tell you whether the IP is located in a specific region, the name of the Internet carrier and may also provide the coordinates of the Internet user. These coordinates can then be entered into the "Google Earth" free software and an exact location can be pinpointed.
