How to Open an .OST

by Susan Reynolds

An OST file is a type of file that holds information supported by Microsoft Exchange. These files may hold contact information, emails or calendar events. OST files are automatically created by Outlook when you are online. If you want to open an OST file but do not have an Internet connection on your computer, your only alternative is to convert the file to a PST, which can be opened by Outlook. Once you convert the file, you can also read it offline.

Open Microsoft Outlook and log in to your account.

Go to "File > Import and Export."

Hit "Export to a file > Next."

Hit "Personal Folder File > Next." This will open a list of PST folders.

Select "Personal Folders > Include subfolders." This allows you to convert the OST files into PST files. Select the content that you want to convert (such as calendar, data or email) and hit "Next."

Select "Browse" to find the OST files you want to convert. Click on the files and hit "Enter."

Hit "Finish."
