How to Find a Netgear Switch IP Address
By Marie Cartwright
Setting up a computer network for the first time can be a little confusing. Your computers have to be configured to communicate with the networking devices, which requires knowing various IP addresses. So how do you find the IP address of your network switch in the first place? If you are using a Netgear switch, the task of tracking down its IP address is made simple with the help of the Netgear Smartwizard software.
Step 1
Insert the Smartwizard installation CD into your CD-ROM drive. Alternatively, download the installation files onto your computer (visit the "Resources" link and enter your switch model number into the provided field). When directed, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation procedure.
Step 2
Connect an Ethernet cable to the switch. The necessary ports are located on the back of the switch. Plug the other end of the cable into your computer. Turn on the switch.
Step 3
Launch the newly installed "Smartwizard Gear Discovery" utility. A new window opens. Click the "Discover" button near the lower right of the "Device List" section. The utility scans for the switch. Once it has been detected, a new listing appears under "Device List." The IP address is listed in the second column from the left.
