My iPod Nano Keeps Restarting When It's Plugged In
By Kathleen Michelau
An iPod nano that keeps restarting may need to be restored through iTunes. After entering the iPod into disk mode and connecting it to your computer, you can use iTunes to restore the device to it's original settings. A restore should alleviate the problem of an iPod nano constantly restarting.
Disk Mode
In order to have iTunes recognize the iPod nano that is malfunctioning, first enter the device into disk mode. Ensure the iPod is fully charged before proceeding. To enter disk mode on an iPod nano 7th generation, reset the device by pressing and holding both the sleep and home buttons until the display turns black. Then, press and hold the volume down and up buttons at the same time and the device will enter disk mode.
For a 6th generation iPod nano, reset the device by pressing and holding both the sleep and volume down buttons until the display turns black. Then, press and hold both the volume down and up buttons and the device will enter disk mode.
For earlier generations, toggle the hold switch (on the top of the device) on and off. Press and hold the menu and select buttons until the Apple logo appears. Then, release the menu and select buttons and press and hold both the select and play/pause buttons until the disk mode screen appears.
Restore
Once the iPod nano is in disk mode, connect the iPod to your computer. Open iTunes and find your device listed on the left hand side of the screen. Click on your device and press "Restore." Doing this will erase all user content from the iPod nano and restore the device to factory settings. Content can be restored if you have saved backups in iTunes.
