Moving a heavy television is no joke. Pulling a back muscle or breaking a toe is not out of the realm of possibilities if you are moving a heavy television. It is through diligence and a proper awareness for safety that you can successfully move a heavy television. If you have a large and heavy television set that you need to move, there are some hurdles you will need to jump in order to safely accomplish the job.

Lifting

Step 1

Stand close to the television with your feet shoulder-width apart. Your feet should be no more than 1 foot from the television.

Step 2

Squat down to pick up the television. Your back should be as straight as possible with your knees bent at approximately a 90° angle.

Step 3

Grasp the bottom corners of the television firmly. This may take some finagling because the balance of every television is different. Ultimately, you should grip the television in the place that is the most balanced so that each hand is responsible for holding an equal amount of weight.

Step 4

Lift up using your legs and not your back. As you lift up, your back should remain mostly straight as you use your legs, chest, hips and abdominal muscles to lift the heavy television set.

Step 5

Walk slowly to your destination.

Moving Dolly

Step 1

Stand the moving dolly upright.

Step 2

Lift the heavy television in the same manner as before.

Step 3

Place the television gently on the bottom plate of the moving dolly. The center of the television will likely be the balance point. Make sure that the center of the television rests on the middle of the bottom plate of the moving dolly to ensure that the television is balanced.

Step 4

Place your strong hand on the television. This hand will help you control the television as you move the moving dolly, keeping it from sliding forward, left or right.

Step 5

Pull the top of the moving dolly quickly with your other hand and simultaneously push the back bar of the dolly so that you get the television to rest against the vertical bars of the dolly and the wheels under the television.
