How to Move Folders From AOL to Gmail
By Bennett Gavrish
All America Online Internet subscribers have access to an email address with the "@aol.com" domain. Within your AOL email account, you can set up mail folders and then move messages from your inbox to one of the subfolders. If you have decided to stop using your AOL email account and switch to a Gmail account from Google, you can automate the migration process and have Gmail automatically move your AOL folders into your new mailbox.
Step 1
Open a Web browser and go to gmail.com.
Step 2
Enter your Google username and password and then press the "Sign In" button.
Step 3
Click on the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the page and select "Mail Settings."
Step 4
Go to the "Accounts and Import" tab at the top of the "Settings" page.
Step 5
Click on the "Import mail and contacts" button.
Step 6
Enter your full AOL email address in the pop-up window, and then press "Continue."
Step 7
Enter your AOL password and press "Continue" again.
Step 8
Check the box next to "Import mail," and then press the "Start import" button.
Step 9
Hit "OK" to close the pop-up window. Gmail will now begin importing the messages and folders from your AOL account, but the process may take several hours to complete.
