The term "McAfee removal tool" may refer any of a range of computer antivirus products published by McAfee, Inc. It may also refer to a software program designed to remove McAfee products from an operating system.
Standalone Removal Tools
McAfee offers several free tools that remove specific kinds of computer malware. As of early 2010, these free removal tools include the Avert Stinger, which removes the Sasser, Bagle, Zafi, Mydoom and Lovsan/Blaster viruses. It also offers the Klez Removal Tool and the Bugbear Removal Tool for the Klez and Bugbear viruses.
In addition to the free removal tools, McAfee sells antivirus and anti-spyware software products that detect and remove a wider range of of malware.
Personal File Disposal
In addition to malware removal, McAfee offers the "Shredder" feature, which allows for secure disposal of personal or sensitive digital files.
The "QuickScan" removal tool found in McAfee software identifies and removes "junk" files from the computer in order to enhance system performance.
The McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool software is designed to remove all McAfee software from a computer. This removes all 2005-2009 versions of the McAfee consumer software. It is not compatible with Windows 98 or Windows ME operating systems.
