How Many Times Can You Change Your Name on PayPal

PayPal requires that your account be connected to your real, accurate name. If you've had your name changed due to marriage, divorce or a court order, you can apply to have it changed through the site. If there's an error in the spelling of your name, you can also request a change. No matter the reason for the change, you must show PayPal documents supporting the change. PayPal will change your name anytime you can prove that it has been legally changed.
Legal Name Change
Step 1
Log in to your PayPal account and hover over "Profile." Click "My Personal Info."
Step 2
Click "Change" next to your name in the Name category.
Step 3
Select the "Personal Name Change (marriage, divorce, legal)" bubble and click "Continue."
Step 4
Make a scan of your legal ID with your old name. Make a scan of either your photo ID with your new name or the court document showing the name change. Upload the scans to your computer.
Step 5
Click "Upload Files." Select "Choose File" and locate the original photo ID scan. Click "Open." Choose a type from the drop-down menu and type a description. Repeat the process for the second document.
Step 6
Click "Send Files." PayPal will examine your documentation and change your name when it has been confirmed.
Typographical Change
Step 1
Log in to your PayPal account and hover over "Profile." Click "My Personal Info."
Step 2
Click "Change" next to your name in the Name category.
Step 3
Click the "Personal Name Change (incorrect at signup or minor name change)" bubble and click "Continue."
Step 4
Click "Yes" if it's a minor typographical change of up to two letters, and click "Continue." You'll be allowed to change it on the next page. If it's a more major change, click "No" and then click "Continue."
Step 5
Make a scan of your current photo ID, which can be a driver's license, passport or government issued state ID, and a document that supports your identity, which can be a utility statement, bank statement or credit card statement with your new name and address. Upload the scans to your computer.
Step 6
Click "Upload Files" and then "Choose File." Locate the scan on your computer and click "Open."
Step 7
Select the type of scan from the drop-down menu and type a description of it. Click "Upload Files." Repeat for the second document.
Step 8
Click "Send Files." PayPal will review your documents and change your name when it has been verified.

- Acceptable Photo IDs include driver's licenses, passports and government-issued identification.
- A utility bill, bank statement or credit card statement showing your name can be uploaded to support typographical changes, along with an ID. The bank or credit card must be connected to the PayPal account.
