How to Manually Reset a Kindle DX (10 Steps)
By Julius Vandersteen
You may need to reset your Kindle DX e-book reader if it experiences a problem. At the first sign of trouble, try restarting the device. If this doesn’t solve the problem, you have two options for resetting: a power switch reset, which retains all of your data, or a factory defaults reset, which erases any e-books, audiobooks and other data you have stored on the device.
Restart
Step 1
Press the Kindle DX’s “Home” button.
Step 2
Press the “Menu” button.
Step 3
Press the device’s 5-Way controller to highlight “Settings,” and then press the controller’s center to select this option.
Step 4
Press the “Menu” button once more and select the “Restart” option. The Kindle DX restarts.
Power Switch Reset
Step 1
Unplug the Kindle DX’s power cord.
Step 2
Slide and hold the “Power” switch for 15 seconds.
Step 3
Let go of the “Power” switch. The Kindle resets itself and restarts. If you are still having a problem with the device, go to the next section.
Factory Defaults Reset
Step 1
Press the Kindle DX’s “Home” button.
Step 2
Press the “Menu” button. Press the device’s 5-Way controller to highlight “Settings,” and then press the controller’s center to select the option.
Step 3
Press the “Menu” button once more, press the controller to highlight “Reset to Factory Defaults,” and then press the controller’s center to select it. The Kindle DX resets itself to the factory default settings.
