How to Make Your DVR Wireless
By Cameron Easey
A DVR box, such as those provided by DirecTV and Dish Network, can come with an Ethernet port to connect to the Internet. One way to get an Internet connection on the DVR is to connect an Ethernet cable from the router used with your computer. Another way is to connect a wireless receiver to use with a wireless router. Connecting a wireless receiver eliminates the need to run an Ethernet cable through your house.
Step 1
Verify that the wireless router connected to the DSL or cable Internet connection is turned on and working properly.
Step 2
Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet jack on the back of the DVR unit.
Step 3
Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable into the LAN port on the back of the receiver unit.
Step 4
Turn on the DVR and television to test the connection.
Step 5
Press the “Menu” button on the remote control for the DVR.
Step 6
Select the option for Help and Settings.
Step 7
Select the Setup option and then the Network option.
Step 8
Verify that you have a wireless connection by selecting the Connect Now option.
