How to Make My D-Link Wireless Router Secure
By KR Knowlin
Protecting yourself online begins with your wireless network security. Secure your D-Link router to guard against unauthorized access to your wireless network. Set up a passcode for your D-Link router to limit the users on your network. This way, users will have to enter the passcode to log onto your wireless network. Login to your router set up page to edit your security settings.
Step 1
Open your Web browser. Type "192.168.0.1" (without quotes) into the URL field to navigate to the D-Link router setup page. The administrator login prompt will appear.
Step 2
Type "admin" (without quotes) into the "User Name" to log in with the default login. Leave the "Password" field blank. If you have customized your D-Link login information, enter your personal user name and password into the appropriate fields.
Step 3
Click the "Wireless Settings" tab.
Step 4
Click the drop-down arrow of the field next to "Security Mode."
Step 5
Select the security mode you want to apply to the router. Microsoft recommends using WPA2, if possible.
Step 6
Type a passphrase into the "Passphrase" field. Confirm the passphrase in the "Confirm Passphrase" field.
Step 7
Click the "Save" button to apply the changes.
