How to Make the Screen Color Darker on My HP PC

by Diana Braun

Most HP computers contain a built-in brightness control feature that allows users to quickly adjust the screen color brightness from the keyboard. Increasing the brightness causes colors to appear darker and more vibrant. Text is easier to read and pictures appear more true-to-life when the screen brightness is increased.

Step 1

Press and hold the "FN" key.

Step 2

Press "F8." The "F8" key is a common function key used to control brightness on HP computers. Consult your computer model's user guide for the specific function keys to use if this key don't work.

Tap the "F8" key while holding down the "FN" key to incrementally increase the screen brightness. Pressing and holding the "F8" key instead of tapping the key will instantly increase the brightness instead of gradually increasing the brightness.

  • If you are using an HP monitor with a desktop computer, you may notice brightness controls on the front of the monitor. The brightness control button often depicts a sun.
