How to Make Ask.com Your Default Search Engineby Contributor
Ask.com is a search engine used by millions of people every day. If you make it your default search engine, it will automatically be used when you click the "Search" button in Internet Explorer. It will also be automatically used to search when you type something into the address bar and hit "Enter."
Using Internet Explorer 7
Open Internet Explorer 7 on your computer.
Click on the down-arrow button next to the search button.
Select "Change Search Defaults..." at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
Click on "Find more providers..." at the bottom of the "Change Search Defaults" dialog box.
Click the "Use current" button in the homepage section of the "General" tab. This will open up another window that displays various search providers.
Click on Ask.com in the "Web Search" column. An "Add Search Provider" dialog box will pop up on your screen.
Check the check box next to "Make this my default search provider." A check mark should appear in the box.
Click the "Add Provider" button. Ask.com is your default search engine.
Using Internet Explorer 5 or 6
Make sure Internet Explorer 5 or 6 is open on your computer.
Click the "Search" button on the toolbar. The search pane will open up on the left side of the window.
Select "Customize" in the search pane. The "Customize Search Settings" dialog box will pop up on your screen.
Click the "Autosearch" settings button at the bottom of the dialog box. Another dialog box will pop up on your screen.
Choose "Ask.com" from the drop-down menu.
Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
Click "OK" to close the "Customize Search Settings" dialog box. You are done.
- check Type something into the search window, and click the "Search" button or press the "Enter" key to search using your default search engine.
- check Make sure you have administrator privileges if you want to download and run the file to make Ask.com your default search engine.
