How to Install a Wireless Printer & Scanner
By Sumiko Russell
Printing a document upstairs when your printer is downstairs makes all the difference in your home, as you do not have to physically connect to your printer & scanner to print a document. With wireless technology, you can print a document anywhere in your home or scan a document and walk away to view the scanned image on your laptop screen. You don't have to deal with tangled wires or be physically connected to your computer to print or scan a document when you install a wireless printer and scanner.
Max OS X
Connect your Mac to your printer & scanner with the USB cable to use the setup assistant. Install the software to configure the printer and scanner for your wireless network and make sure that your wireless Internet is configured.
Open the setup-assistant software and choose your wireless network. If your wireless network is password protected, you will be prompted to enter the password.
Disconnect the USB cable from the printer & scanner and the Mac. Click on "System Preferences" to view "Personal," "Hardware," "Internet & Wireless" and "System."
Click on "Print & Fax" under the "Hardware" to populate your printer settings. Make sure that you are connected to the wireless network and the printer and scanner is turned on.
Click the "+" to add your printer and scanner and check the box "Share this printer on the network."
Windows
Install the software to configure the printer and scanner to your wireless network. If the computer does not recognize the software, connect the printer and scanner to the computer with the USB cable temporarily to assist with the installation.
Click "Start." If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7, click on The Windows flag and select "Control Panel."
Click "Hardware and Sound," and under "Printers" select "Add a Printer." This will allow you to add your printer and scanner to your wireless network.
Select the option "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer." This will scan for your wireless printer and scanner. Make sure that you are connected to the wireless network and that the printer and scanner is turned on.
Select your printer and scanner you would like to install once the option populates on the screen and click "Next" to complete the installation.
