How to Install a Second Trend Micro

By Dustin Thornton

Trend Micro Internet Security is anti-virus and anti-spam software that you may use to protect your computer from viruses, spyware and hackers. You can obtain this software by purchasing the discs from your local software retailer or by downloading an installation file from the Trend Micro website. The same Trend Micro license may be used to install the program on up to three separate computers. Follow these instructions for how to install Trend Micro on a second or third computer.

Check and make sure that your second computer is online before you install the software. Trend Micro requires an Internet connection to activate and validate your subscription.

Insert the Trend Micro installation CD or double-click the installation file you downloaded. The program will inspect your computer to ensure it meets the basic requirements for the program. This may take a few minutes. A dialog box will pop up when it is complete.

Click on "I accept the terms of the license agreement" when the dialog box pops up. This is a standard software license agreement. Click "Next" to continue.

Type your Trend Micro serial number into the box provided. If you purchased Trend Micro online, your serial number will be available in your order confirmation. If you are using a disc to install Trend Micro, your serial number will be available on the disc envelope. Click "Next" to continue.

Click on "Regular Installation (recommended)" when the installer asks you which type of installation you want to perform. Only perform a custom installation if you are familiar with the software and want to change the installation preferences. Tampering with installation preferences, if you are unfamiliar with them, can make Trend Micro less effective and can even cause your computer to run slower. Click "Next" to continue.

Type in a specific name for the computer that you are activating Trend Micro on when the "Activate Now" dialog box pops up. Use a unique name that you have not used when activating the product on other computers, or you will get an error. It's best to use something that identifies that specific computer, such as "kid's computer" or "work computer." Click "Next" to continue.

Verify that your product is active by viewing the confirmation dialog box that lists the expiry date, computer description and serial number. If the product did not activate, you will not have up-to-date anti-virus protection.

Download the necessary updates for the software and scan your computer for viruses and spyware.
