How to Connect a Printer to an Ethernet Router
By Michaele Curtis
Connecting a printer to a router's Ethernet port is a quick way to network a printer. Essentially, networking a printer makes it accessible to any computer that can connect to that network. Several computers can use one network printer. In fact, you don’t even have to be in the same room to use a printer connected to a router. As long as you are within range of the network, you can send documents to the printer.
Step 1
Locate the Ethernet port on the back of your printer.
Step 2
Plug one end of the cable into printer’s Ethernet port.
Step 3
Locate an available Ethernet port on the router. Insert the free end of the Ethernet cable into the port on the router.

Tips
- Some printers have an indicator light above the Ethernet port. If yours has one, it should light up when connected to a working router.
Warnings
- This process can vary depending on the brand and model of your printer or router. If you have trouble connecting your printer to your router, consult the user manuals for each device.
