How to Install MDAC Using Wine

by Charles Poole

WINE is a program used with the Mac OSX and Linux operating systems to load EXE program files on the system. Executable files (EXE) are used with Windows operating systems to load programs. If you have the WINE program on your UNIX system, you can load the Microsoft Data Access Components with the WINE program. You don't have to be a computer programmer to load your MDAC components onto your system. You can do it yourself with little hassle.

Open your browser and go to the "MDAC" Web page (see Resources link).

Click on the "Download" icon from the menu to start the download.

Click the "Save As" icon to start downloading the EXE file to your computer.

Right-click on the "MDAC_TYP.EXE" file after it is downloaded.

Click on the "Open With" icon and then select your WINE program to open the EXE file.

Click the "I Accept" icon to accept the software agreement.

Click the "Install" icon to install the software to your system.

Click "Finish" to complete the installation.
