How to Install Mavis Beacon Typing

The "Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing" program is an educational tool that provides numerous exercises to improve your speed and efficiency while typing, and features a progress report to show your typing improvement through the use of typing games and lessons. In order to install "Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing" on your computer, you must have at least a Pentium II 266MHz computer with the Windows 98 operating system or better. These minimum requirements are necessary to run the program, but a faster computer allows the program to run more smoothly as it also requires 540 MB of hard drive space.

Single-User Installation

Step 1

Insert the "Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing" installation CD into your PC's CD drive. If the CD does not load automatically, double-click "My Computer" on the desktop then double-click the CD icon. Double-click "Setup.exe" to launch the install shield setup wizard.

Step 2

Click "Next" in the install shield setup window, and click the checkbox next to the program's license agreement. Click "Next" and "Install" to install the typing program onto your computer's hard drive.

Step 3

Click "Finish" to close out of the install shield setup wizard. Click "Start" on the desktop, and click "Programs." Move your cursor to "The Learning Company" and "Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing." Click "Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing v. 16" to launch the program.

Network Program Installation

Step 1

Insert the CD into your computer's disc drive, and click "Next" in the program window.

Step 2

Click the checkbox next to "Accept" in the license agreement section, and click the checkbox next to "Network Files Installation."

Step 3

Click "Next" and click "Browse" to select the destination for the program installation. Click the folder you wish to use to save the program on your computer, and click "OK."

Step 4

Click "Next" and wait for the CD to install the software to the selected folder. Click "OK" to finalize the installation process.

Step 5

Double-click "My Computer" and double-click the CD icon, and double-click the setup.exe file to re-run the installation.

Step 6

Click "Next" and accept the license agreement in the installer window. Click "Client Installation" and click "Next" to install the software on your network computers.

Step 7

Click the network folder and click "Next." Click the directory for the network and click "Next." Click "OK" to finish the installation and exit.
