How to Install HDMI Cables

by Ricky Gee

HDMI cables are typically used to connect devices that require a high definition signal to a television capable of displaying that signal. In addition to your cable box, HDMI cables connect Blu-ray players, game consoles and some video cameras to your television.

Step 1

Find the HDMI output on the device that you wish to connect to your TV. It will be a narrow, rectangular connection jack that usually is labeled "HDMI."

Step 2

Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI output.

Step 3

Find the HDMI input on your television. Plug in the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI input jack.

Repeat steps 1-3 for connecting any other devices to your television.

  • HDMI cables come in different lengths. Make sure to buy a length that leaves some slack on the cable so that it does not get damaged.

  • Some televisions have a limited amount of HDMI inputs. Make sure you don't need to hook up more devices than you have inputs for.

Items you will need

  • HDMI cable
  • Two devices capable of high definition output/input
