How to Install EzCap

By Charles Poole

EzCap is a video capture device that allows users to create digital versions of video found on camcorders, VHS tapes or shows on their television’s DVR. The EzCap hardware plugs into the USB port on the computer. The EzCap hardware also comes with a software CD. This software is specifically designed to capture the live video feed coming into the computer. You can install this software and hardware with little hassle as long as you have a copy of the software. The software is also offered for free online.

Step 1

Insert the software CD into your computer’s optical drive. Wait for the computer to recognize the software CD. There is an “autorun” file on the CD that automatically starts the software when it is inserted into a computer. If you do not have the software CD, skip to Step 3.

Step 2

Click the “I Agree” box to accept the software agreement and then click “Install” option on the bottom of the software screen. Wait for the software to install. This should take about 15 seconds. Click the “Finish” button.

Step 3

Go to the “EzCap” website from your Web browser (see Resources). Click on the “EzCap 108/116/156” option from the right side of the screen. Click the “OK” button to download the drivers to your computer’s desktop. The download should take about 45 seconds to complete.

Step 4

Click on the “Setup.exe” icon on your desktop to launch the installer. Accept the software agreement and then click the “Install” button. Wait for the install to complete and then click “Finish.”

Step 5

Plug the EzCap USB hardware into your computer’s USB port. Wait for the software to recognize the USB hardware. Click on the “Restart” prompt to restart your computer. Wait for the computer to restart with the software and hardware properly installed.
