How to Install AT&T Internet

by Faizah Imani

If you have contacted AT&T to subscribe to either their dial-up or high-speed Internet services, you must complete an installation process to get your service up and running. For an additional fee, AT&T will send a field tech to your home or business to install the service, but that is money you can save by performing the installation yourself.

For Windows 2000/XP/Vista

If you are using AT&T;'s high-speed Internet services, connect your DSL or cable modem to your computer. The appropriate cable cords for your connection will accompany the modem shipped to you by AT&T; .

Open your Control Panel. Choose Network. Select the option to Connect to a Network. Choose the option to Setup a Connection or Network.

Select Connect to the Internet and then select Setup a New Connection. Choose the type of Internet connection you wish to set up (i.e., dial-up or broadband high-speed). Proceed through the Internet connection wizard. You must provide a username and password to establish a connection. If you don't know your username and password, contact AT&T; customer service (877-722-3755).

Open your Internet browser to begin surfing the Internet after completing the setup wizard.

For Macintosh OS

Connect your DSL or cable modem to your computer using the cables that came with your modem.

Open the Apple menu. Select Internet Access. Proceed to the Internet Setup Assistant.

Complete all of the requested information in the Internet Setup Assistant. You must provide your username and password.

Open your Internet browser to begin surfing the Internet after walking through the Setup assistant.
