How to Increase Disk Partition Size

by T.M. Wit

Hard drive partitioning is a useful tool for your PC or laptop computer. Partitioning essentially divides up sections of your hard drive in order to separate the files completely. Partitioning is useful if you want to restrict file usage to only some users or if you wish to further organize your data structures. If you already have your hard drive partitioned, you may increase your partition size by following these simple instructions.

Power on your computer and wait for it to fully load.

Click on the “Start” button located in the bottom left hand corner of your screen.

Select the “Computer” option and then select “Manage” from the drop-down window.

Click on “Continue” on the “User Account Control” screen.

Click on “Disk Management,” which will be located under the “Storage” heading.

Right-click on the partition you would like to increase and select “Extend Volume.”

Specify the size of the partition increase.
