How to Improve Smoothness on Hulu Videos

Hulu streams standard videos at a speed of 480Kbps to 700Kbps, while it's high-definition content is streamed at about 1500 Kbps. The faster the speed of your Internet, the smoother the video streaming on the Hulu website will be. If video streaming is pixelated or jerky, other software could be consuming bandwidth, Flash Player could be out of date, or your Internet connection might not be fast enough. Check the bandwidth of your connection and confirm that Adobe Flash Player is up-to-date to improve smoothness of streaming videos on Hulu.

Exit from all applications that use Internet bandwidth, other than the browser. Stop any downloads. If other users on the network are downloading files or running applications that use network bandwidth, it can affect video smoothness as well.

Go to the SpeedTest website. Click "Begin Test" and wait for SpeedTest to measure your network's bandwidth.

Compare your download speed with Hulu's recommended download speed. If the download speed of your Internet is below 700 to 1000 Kbps for standard resolution, or below 1500 Kbps for high resolution, you will need to contact your ISP to upgrade Internet speeds to improve performance when streaming.

Check which version of Flash Player is installed to your computer. Go to the Adobe Flash Player About page and check the information under "Version Information."

Compare the version installed to your PC with the version shown in the table. If your version of Flash Player is not up-to-date, download the latest version and install it to your PC.

Disable real-time protection on your firewall. Re-enable the firewall when you are no longer streaming videos on Hulu.
