By Joanne Cichetti
International Mobile Equipment Identity number (IMEI) is a unique number that is specifically associated with each GSM and UMTS cell phones. This number helps you identify your phone if it gets stolen or misplaced. IMEI is also used to carry out phone unlock. For these reasons, it is a wise idea to write down the IMEI number and keep it accessible.
Step 1
Remove your Nokia mobile phone's battery cover.
Step 2
Take the battery out.
Step 3
Look underneath the battery area for a white sticker with a series of digits on it. There will most likely be 15 or 17 numbers. The first 15 digits make up your IMEI number. If you are unable to find the IMEI number on the sticker, go to Step 4.
Step 4
Insert the battery in the phone and turn it on.
Step 5
Type in *#06# after the phone initializes. Your phone screen will immediately show you the 15-digit IMEI number of your Nokia phone.
