How to Use a Fax Machine With MagicJack
By Mindi Orth
MagicJack offers a less expensive alternative to a traditional telephone landline, which can save your business money over time. If your business relies on a fax machine, however, you may wonder if you can still use it once you make the switch to MagicJack. While previous versions of MagicJack failed to support the connection of a fax machine officially, the current MagicJack Plus does support fax connectivity.
Install your MagicJack Plus, if you have not already done so. Connect MagicJack to your computer’s USB port. Connect one end of a telephone cable to the MagicJack and connect the other end into a telephone. A Welcome screen appears after a brief delay. Click the Registration option and follow the onscreen prompts to register the device and create your MagicJack account. Log on to activate your account.
Disconnect the telephone from your MagicJack and connect your fax machine.
Adjust the fax speed to the lowest setting on your machine. If you are not certain how to do this, refer to the owner’s manual for your specific fax machine.
Send a test fax to confirm your fax machine communicates properly using the MagicJack connection.
Warnings
MagicJack requires you to enter a valid email address. Failure to provide a valid email address will result in your inability to use your MagicJack.
