How to Use a Fax Machine With a Regular Vonage Line
By Maya Walker
As you work to make ends meet in your business, the expense of installing a dedicated fax line may outweigh the benefits. To save money and get the most use from your Vonage line, you can utilize it for verbal communication as well as faxing. Connect your line to a fax machine and you can send fax communications to all of the same locations you can call without increasing your monthly fee. You also don't have to worry about purchasing additional software or equipment.
Disconnect the phone line currently connected to your telephone. Leave the other end of the line connected to your Vonage adapter.
Connect the phone line that you just unplugged into the fax machine port marked with the word “Line” or a telephone icon.
Press the “Power” button on the fax machine to turn it on. Place the documents you want to fax in the machine's feeder.
Enter the phone number to which you want to fax the documents, and then press the “Send” key to use your Vonage line to initiate the fax.
Wait for the fax to complete. Disconnect the phone line from the fax machine and reconnect the telephone if needed.
Tips
Vonage offers the option to use the second port on its adapter as a fax line but charges a nominal fee for this upgrade. The fee is waived for the first line, but applies to each additional line. A per-minute rate may also apply to faxing in some cases. Contact customer support for questions regarding the plan.
