Some companies choose to utilize a VoIP (voice over IP) phone service, such as Comcast's Xfinity Voice, rather than pay for a normal phone line from the phone company. If your company uses Xfinity Voice, you can hook up any fax machines in your office to the Xfinity Voice service, even though the call is routed over the Internet instead of traditional phone lines. By using your fax machine with Xfinity Voice, you can avoid having to pay for an additional telephone line.

Move your fax machine so that it is within close proximity of your Xfinity Voice modem. This device combines both the modem needed to connect your office to Xfinity Internet, as well as the phone output jacks that you can plug in to your fax machine.

Connect one end of your phone line to the phone jack on your Xfinity Voice modem. Connect the other end of the line to the "LINE IN" port on your fax machine.

Pick up the handset on your fax machine to check for a dial tone. If your fax machine doesn't have a handset, try sending out a test fax to make sure the line is connected properly. You can now use your fax machine with Xfinity Voice.

The Hitachi Omni Fax HF18TME is not compatible with the Xfinity Voice service. If your company uses this fax machine, you will not be able to send or receive faxes over Xfinity Voice.
