How to Schedule Automator Tasks in Mac OS X

Apple OS X's Automator allows you to combine a multitude of tasks on your Mac into workflows that can be easily executed. Schedule these workflows to execute at night or some other time that will not interfere with your business's schedule. Mac OS X allows you to combine Automator and Apple's Calendar app to schedule tasks in whatever schedule you choose.

Launch the Automator app, which is located in the Applications folder or in the Other app group in Launchpad.

Click on the "File" menu and select "Open" to load an existing workflow, or create a new workflow.

Open the "File" menu, select "Save As," and then click "Application" from the "File Format" drop-down menu.

Open the Calendar app, which is located in the Applications folder; it may also be visible in the top level of Launchpad. Calendar was called iCal in previous versions of OS X.

Open the "File" menu and select "New Event."

Configure the name, date and repeat of the new event that will run your Automator workflow, now saved as an app.

Open the "Alarm" drop-down menu and select "Open File." Select "Other" from the "File" drop-down menu and open the workflow you saved as an APP file. This adds the workflow app to the File drop-down menu; go ahead and select it. Your workflow will now be executed when the event alarm triggers.
