How to Remove a Key on a Lenovo ThinkPad
By Michelle Carvo
While Lenovo ThinkPad laptops are built to withstand very tough usage conditions, eventually a component or two is bound to break down or require cleaning. One of the most likely components to require removal is a key on the keyboard, as occasionally cleaning or outright replacement of a key is necessary. Safely removing a key on a Lenovo ThinkPad computer requires just a few simple steps to get the job done.
Shut your ThinkPad down by clicking “Start” and then “Shutdown.”
Unplug your AC adapter if it is currently plugged in. In order to safely remove keys on the ThinkPad, it’s necessary to remove all sources of power by shutting down the computer and unplugging the adapter.
Wedge your finger nail or a small flat head screwdriver under the top left or top right corner of the key you want to remove from the ThinkPad.
Lift the key from the keyboard in a gentle and quick motion. If the key does not pop off on the first try, repeat this step to remove the key from your ThinkPad laptop.
Tips
Don’t forget to replace the key after cleaning the original or purchasing a new one. You can replace the key by placing it on the keyboard and pushing it down with your finger so that it snaps into place.
