How to Publish Yahoo! News on My Website

By Melissa Worcester

Yahoo! News has many sections, such as World News and Science News. Each section has an RSS feed. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication, and you can use it to find and access content that is regularly updated, such as a blog, a news website or a podcast. You can use the RSS functionality to display content from Yahoo! News on your own blog.

Feed Informer

Choose the section of Yahoo! News you want to display and copy the feed address for that section.

Visit feed.informer.com and paste the feed address in the field. Click the "Submit" button.

Copy the code Feed Informer generates.

Open your HTML editor and find the part of your Web page where you want to display the feed, or use your content management system to create a section of the page where you can enter a snippet of HTML code. Paste in the code you obtained from Feed Informer and save the page.

Google AJAX Feed API

Visit the Google AJAX Feed API and enter the description of the Yahoo! News page you want to display on your website. Select the style of layout you want to use and click the "Generate Code" button.

Highlight and copy the code generated.

Open your HTML editor and find the part of your Web page where you want to display the feed, or use your content management system to create a section of the page where you can enter a snippet of HTML code. Paste in the code you obtained from Google and save the page.

WordPress RSS Widget

Click the Widget section of the WordPress dashboard.

Search for, choose and install an RSS feed widget such as KB Advanced RSS Widget. Place the widget in your blog's sidebar or footer; the process for doing this will differ depending on which theme you use for WordPress.

Enter the feed address into the widget's settings. Enter a title for your feed display, which will show up on your blog above the feed contents. Choose the settings you desire and click the "Save" button. View your blog to see what the feed looks like.

Tips

The website URL of the Yahoo! News page is not the same as the feed address. If you click the feed address in your Web browser you may be taken to a page asking what reader you want to use to subscribe, or you may be taken to a page that actually shows the feed contents, depending on your browser's settings. Either way, it will look much different from the actual Yahoo! News page. Look for the orange RSS logo and click it to obtain the feed address, or visit news.yahoo.com/rs for the complete list of Yahoo! News page RSS feeds.
