How to Open the Camera on a Lenovo Ideapad

By Melissa King

Since 2008, Lenovo has offered a laptop series under the IdeaPad name. Lenovo IdeaPad laptops are available in four series: Ultra Mobile, NetBook, Wide Screen and Affordable Entertainment. Many IdeaPad computers come with an integrated camera that records live video. If your laptop did not come with a manual, you may be wondering how to turn the camera on and off. Do this with the press of a few keys.

Power on your Lenovo IdeaPad laptop by pressing the "Power" button, located on the left side just above the keyboard.

Open an application where you would like to use the integrated camera. Use the camera for video conferencing or taking pictures that you can edit.

Open the camera by pressing the "Fn" and "Esc" keys at the same time. A blue and white camera icon displays in the bottom right corner of the screen, indicating that the camera is active. To turn the camera back off, hit the "Fn" and "Esc" keys again.

Tips

Turn your camera off when you are not using it. The running camera consumes some battery power, which may cause your IdeaPad laptop to lose its battery charge more quickly.
