How to Make CD Labels in Windows Media Player

Windows Media Player allows you to rip and burn compact discs directly from a CD or from music already in your Media Player Library. Once you have created a disc, distinguish it from other CDs in your collection by creating a CD label. You can create customized labels directly within Windows Media Player for both the CD and a CD jewel case. Windows Media Player allows you to choose the background color and the text for the label. It also provides an option for creating text-only labels or labels with images.

Open Windows Media Player either by double clicking on the desktop icon or by accessing it through the "Start" menu. If it is not located in the blue box of your "Start" menu, open the "All Programs" menu and find it in the program list.

Open the "File" menu and locate the "Print Label" option. Read the introduction page and click "Next."

Choose the CD you are making a label for by locating the CD title in the disc drive list or the "My Playlist" menu. Click on the CD title followed by the "Next" button.

Select the label type you wish to create from the dropdown menu. The label information is sorted by manufacturer and then by label type. This information can be found on the label packaging. You have the option to make labels for the CD and/or the case.

Choose the "Paper" section to designate if the label should print on the upper or lower portion of the paper. Click "Next."

Fill in the title and footer information for the CD, case and spine labels, if applicable. Change the background color from white by choosing an alternate color from the dropdown menu.

Design your label by clicking on the "Image Settings" tab. Choose an image for your label by clicking on the "Browse" button to search through your images and photos. Select the desired image by clicking on "Open" followed by "OK." Choose a layout for the label from the "Tile," "Stretch" or "Center" options. When your label has been designed, click "Next."

Print your label by clicking on the "Print" tab.
